Handheld Controller (HHB) / Gamepad Setup in Flair 7¶
Not robot-specific
Any USB input device — MRMC's own handheld boxes, a wired game controller, joystick, or flight-sim controller — can be configured this way on any Flair 7 rig. The source video was demonstrated on a Cinebot Mini, but nothing here is Cinebot-specific. Wired devices are recommended over wireless — MRMC notes wireless controllers have caused rigs to move on their own.
Opening the Setup Screen¶
Go to Setups > Handheld Box. If you've plugged in a generic gamepad/joystick rather than one of MRMC's own boxes, the screen shows a generic list of analog inputs and buttons instead of a device picture — moving a joystick or pressing a button highlights the corresponding input live, which is how you identify which physical control maps to which input before assigning it.
Safety note: while this screen is open, none of the device's inputs have any live effect on the rig — you can safely press every button to identify it without anything moving.
Assigning Functions¶
- Select the analog input or button you want to assign (identify it by moving/pressing it, per above).
- Choose a function from the list — axis controls (tilt, pan, lift, etc.), move controls (forward run, back run, go-to), toggles (target tracking on/off), and editing functions (store, undo, redo).
- For an analog stick, assigning one axis (e.g. tilt) automatically claims both the positive and negative directions of that input.
- Always assign a Stop button on any handheld controller — it's the one function you don't want to have to hunt for.
- Once you're happy, press Apply to make the assignment live, or nothing will actually change while you're testing.
Saving¶
- Save overwrites the current default configuration for this specific device.
- Save As lets you store a named preset — useful when different people or different jobs want different button layouts on the same physical controller.
- If you make changes and don't press Apply/Save, closing and reopening the setup screen (or reselecting a preset) reverts to the last saved state — nothing is kept implicitly.
- To remove an assignment, use Unassign, then press whatever input you want cleared.
