Cinebot Mini / Max — UR Arm Kinematics calibration.conf Must Be Loaded from Arm¶
Summary¶
The Cinebot Mini and Cinebot Max use a Universal Robots (UR) arm. Each UR arm has a unique factory kinematics calibration file (calibration.conf) that compensates for manufacturing tolerances specific to that individual arm. Flair must be loaded with the calibration file from its own arm — using a mismatched or default file will cause inaccurate positioning across the workspace, especially noticeable in Cartesian moves and target tracking.
Early Cinebot deliveries may have been shipped without this file correctly loaded into Flair. The symptom is subtle: the rig moves and engages, but Cartesian accuracy is degraded across the workspace.
Use the calibration file from YOUR arm only
Never copy calibration.conf from another Cinebot or download a generic version. Each arm's calibration is unique to that unit. Using the wrong file gives incorrect kinematics silently — the rig will work but positions will be wrong.
Symptoms¶
- Cinebot Mini or Max Cartesian positioning is inaccurate, especially far from home
- Target tracking is less accurate than expected across the workspace
- The rig engages and moves normally but Cartesian offsets vary by position
- You have never loaded a calibration.conf from the arm (early delivery or fresh Flair install)
Cause¶
The Universal Robots arm ships from the factory with a unique kinematic calibration stored on the arm's own controller. Flair uses this file to accurately solve inverse kinematics. If Flair is running a default/generic calibration file, it applies average manufacturing tolerances rather than the specific values for that arm.
Fix: Retrieve calibration.conf from the Arm via SFTP¶
Connect to the UR arm controller and copy the calibration file to the Flair PC.
Prerequisites¶
- Flair PC and Cinebot must be on the same 192.168.1.x network
- Default Cinebot IP: 192.168.1.20 (Cinebot Mini and Max)
- SFTP client: FileZilla, WinSCP, or command-line sftp

Step 3 — Load into Flair¶
Place the file in the Flair configuration directory for the Cinebot rig. The exact path depends on your Flair version and rig configuration — consult the Cinebot Quick Start Guide or contact MRMC support (support@mrmoco.com).
Step 4 — Verify¶
After loading, run a Cartesian move across a known distance and verify the actual camera position matches the expected position. Accuracy should be within a millimetre or two across the full workspace.
For Early Deliveries¶
If you received a Cinebot Mini or Max in 2023 or earlier and have never performed this procedure, it is worth checking whether Flair is using the correct calibration. Contact MRMC (or the community at talk.mrmoco.com while it remains online) for guidance on verifying the loaded file.
