Related HOW TO: Cartesian Mimic with Pan Bars
Three short videos presented by Fabrizio (MRMC), originally posted to the talk.mrmoco.com forum thread "Setting Up MRMC Mimic Handwheels for Cartesian Mimic on a Bolt Pan/Tilt," post #9 (2020-05-11). These were referenced by name for years on this knowledgebase but unfindable, since they were native forum uploads and never made it to YouTube. A community member with forum access retrieved the original files, and they are archived here, hosted directly (not via YouTube).
1. Set up Cartesian Mimic¶
Duration: 4:25 · Searchable transcript: Open full transcript
Demonstrates connecting MRMC handwheels via an RT-14 rootbox, verifying each wheel's Mimic input number in Setups → Test Mimic Input, then live pan/tilt control of the camera in Cartesian mode (Roll Level, Locked World) by assigning Encoder Velocity and a Mimic port number to the Pan/Tilt axes' Control tab in Axis Setup.
2. Mimic – Add Move¶
Duration: 4:46 · Searchable transcript: Open full transcript
The full recording workflow: switching Target Tracking to Pan/Tilt Tracking, assigning Mimic ports to Pan and Tilt via Setups → Cart Setup, ticking Add in Mimic → Carts Mimic, setting Mimic to Learn before recording, the Focus-Follows-Target limitation in this mode, and — critically — setting Mimic back to Off before replaying a recorded move.
3. Singularity Example¶
Duration: 1:37 · Searchable transcript: Open full transcript
A live demonstration of why Cart Control Limits being off is dangerous: manually panning/tilting via the handwheels moves the whole arm (because of the nodal offset), and can drive the rig into a Tilt 90° singularity, causing it to trip.
