Summary

A free browser-based tool created by Tom D (Robotface Studios, Australia) that lets you drag-and-drop an .FBX camera file or a .CSV export from the MRMC Tracker App to instantly visualise the camera path in 3D and play it back in real time — no Maya, no Flair, no installation required.

Beyond basic path visualisation, the tool also corrects for iOS device nodal offset: if the Tracker App was mounted on a camera (rather than exactly at the lens nodal point), you enter the physical offset distance, and the tool recalculates the true lens node positions and outputs a fresh corrected CSV ready for import into Flair.

A downloadable single-file HTML version is linked at the bottom of the tool page. This runs in any modern browser on an offline Flair PC without needing an internet connection.

Why It's Useful

When working on set with the MRMC Tracker App, there is no quick way to verify that the exported CSV or FBX file actually contains sensible data without opening Maya or Flair. Field operators often discover move errors only after importing — wasting time.

This tool gives you an instant field check in any browser:

  • Confirm the move was captured correctly before leaving the location.
  • Identify axis flips, scale errors, or corrupted frames.
  • Understand how the path relates to the robot's coordinate system before you commit to import settings.
  • Correct for iPhone/iOS mounting offset without needing to open any software.

The nodal offset correction also solves a practical problem that has no clean solution in Flair itself: the Tracker App iOS device physically cannot be placed at the exact lens nodal point. If it is mounted on top of a camera or on a cage, every recorded position includes an error equal to the offset distance. This tool removes that error mathematically and produces a corrected file.


How to Use

Basic path inspection

  1. Open the tool at tomdavid.com.au/FLAIR_FBX_CSV_Offsets_Checker.html
  2. Drag and drop your .FBX camera export or your Tracker App .CSV file into the drop zone.
  3. The camera path appears immediately in a 3D viewport.
  4. Use the playback controls to play the move or scrub through it.

Nodal offset correction (Tracker App CSV)

Use this when the iOS Tracker App was mounted on the camera at a known physical distance from the lens nodal point:

  1. Record the move in the MRMC Tracker App and export the CSV.
  2. Drag the CSV into the tool.
  3. Measure the physical offset of the iOS device from the actual lens nodal point:
  4. Example: phone mounted on top of camera body — +23 cm in Y (height), +14 cm in Z (forward/back).
  5. Enter those offset values into the tool's offset fields.
  6. The tool recalculates the corrected camera path showing true lens node positions.
  7. Click Download to get a fresh corrected CSV.
  8. Import the corrected CSV into Flair.

Adding video playback

If you have the video file recorded alongside the Tracker App session:

  1. Load the CSV into the tool as above.
  2. Load the associated video file using the video input.
  3. The video and 3D path playback in sync, side by side — useful for confirming the move matches the original camera action.

"It is also a tool to remove false translation from an iOS motion-sensor offset and outputs true Lens Node positions into a fresh downloadable CSV file. For example, a specific scenario popped up recently when a DP wanted to shoot a scene with ARRI camera on shoulder, but have the robot repeat the moves for plates. So we mounted the iOS device to the camera and I used this app to translate the movement of the iOS app back to the position of the actual lens node (ie, tracker was mounted on top of camera, so it was 23cm above the lens node, and 14cm behind it).
