Debug Assertion Failed Dialog When Adjusting Keyframes (Ripple Adjustment)

CONFIRMED ALL RIGS

Summary

When adjusting keyframes in Flair Classic 7.x (e.g. ripple-through with +/−/× values), a Debug Assertion Failed dialog appears. Clicking Retry or Abort causes Flair to crash; clicking Ignore allows Flair to continue working. The fault appears on specific saved jobs and is repeatable. Root cause is related to axis type issues (see CRASH-chart-view-target-distance-unused-axis.md) — same family of bugs. The fix shipped in a build a few days after 2023-03-18.

Symptoms

  • A "Debug Assertion Failed" dialog box appears during keyframe adjustment
  • Dialog has Retry, Abort, and Ignore buttons
  • Clicking Retry or Abort → Flair crashes
  • Clicking Ignore → Flair continues working (job is not corrupted)
  • Issue is repeatable on specific jobs (not random)
  • Does not occur on all jobs — specific to certain saved files

Immediate Workaround

  1. When the dialog appears: click Ignore — do NOT click Retry or Abort
  2. Save the job immediately after clicking Ignore
  3. Send a bug report to MRMC with the job file attached
  4. Continue working — the dialog may appear again but Ignore keeps it stable

Do not click Retry or Abort

Both will crash Flair on affected builds. Ignore is the only safe option until you update Flair.

Permanent Fix

Update to the latest Flair Classic build (released within days of 2023-03-18). Simon Wakley confirmed the root cause was fixed in that update. The related chart view crash was the same underlying issue.

WhatsApp Excerpts

[16/3/2023, 9:56:53 pm] ~ Radu Stefan Fulga: Hi guys, when I adjust keyframes I sometimes get this strange message. If I click abort or retry, Flair crashes, if I click ignore, it seems to continue working. Anybody know what this is?

[16/3/2023, 10:04:59 pm] ~ Niko: That seems to be a crashing. A programming bug.

[16/3/2023, 10:14:07 pm] ~ Radu Stefan Fulga: Is it safe to ignore it though?
