CS8 Display Shows Blinking Dot Instead of A — Normal Engaged Indicator?

Summary

If a Bolt Jr+ / CS8 runs normally but the 7-segment display shows a blinking dot rather than staying on A, confirm whether the robot is engaged. The community checked the CS8 manual code table and noted there is no ... error code; Gordon Eschke later noted flashing is normal when engaged.

Symptoms

  • On power-up the display progresses through E > r > s > A.
  • After A, the display changes to a blinking dot.
  • Robot motion and Flair connection still function normally.
  • Display may show U when engaged and 8 when E-stop is pressed.

Community Guidance

[LIKELY] Treat the blinking dot as display/engaged state if everything else works

2024-10-30 — Fu ShiShou / Timothy Heys Cerchio / Gordon Eschke

  1. Check the CS8 manual's 7-segment display table.
  2. Confirm whether the display changes to expected states when:
  3. robot is engaged
  4. E-stop is pressed
  5. If robot motion and Flair connection are normal, this may be normal engaged/display behaviour rather than a fault.

Gordon Eschke: flashing would be when it is engaged normally.

[CONFIRMED] CS8 LED Code Reference Table (2026-06-26)

Community — Simon Wakley — 26 June 2026

Simon Wakley's own unofficial reference for the Staubli CS8 7-segment display codes, shared during a network-communication troubleshooting thread (see: Cinebot Nano — FlairBridge ini trips for the context it came from):

"My unofficial notes: Staubli CS8 LED Codes

8 — E-stop Depressed. Either on Pendant or remote box.

U — E-stop Released, Robot Not Engaged

. — Robot Engaged

A — User Emergency Stop is activated. UESA1?

3 — Axis is on limit. Most likely is Angle as it can drop during transport > 60.0 degrees? Use Brake release or pendant.

1 (half sized) with flashing — Error?? Maybe Axes need reset from Staubli controller

7 — Remote Estop Issue? User Estop?

Additional codes are on page 223 of the Staubli CS8 Manual"

This reinforces the "blinking dot = normally engaged" guidance above (. = Robot Engaged) with a fuller code table for the other states you're likely to see while troubleshooting a CS8-based rig.

[30/10/2024, 5:30:02 pm] Timothy Heys Cerchio: At what point does it start blinking? Do you see any of the other letters?

[30/10/2024, 6:09:58 pm] ~ Fu ShiShou: Hi,Timothy thank you for the reply When the robot switch on Normally it will showing E>r>s>A and stay at A The light blinking starts after the A And instead of A, The blinking light constantly stays there Except the light inside is not showing A , motion of the robot and flair connection etc everything function seems normal.

[30/10/2024, 6:20:25 pm] Timothy Heys Cerchio: Strange... But good to know tgst it is still working. Does it switch to U when the Robot is Engaged and/or 8 when the E-Stop is pressed?
