Milo Long Arm — Toppling Risk During Arm Reconfiguration¶
Summary¶
The Milo Long Arm has a high centre of gravity when the arm extension is at or near full extension. During physical arm reconfiguration — changing the arm section layout, removing counterweights, or repositioning the arm segments — the rig can become unstable and topple if the correct procedure from the Assembly Guide is not followed exactly.
Toppling hazard — severe injury or equipment damage risk
A toppling Milo arm can cause serious injury and will destroy the arm and potentially the track. Always follow the MRMC Long Arm Assembly Guide (MRMC-1283-00) procedure when reconfiguring. Never leave the arm in an extended configuration unattended.
When This Risk Applies¶
- Adding or removing long arm extension sections
- Rebalancing counterweights
- Repositioning camera mount or payload
- Moving the rig with arm partially extended (transport)
- Any procedure that temporarily changes the arm's centre of gravity
Key Safety Rules¶
-
Read MRMC Long Arm Assembly Guide (MRMC-1283-00) before any reconfiguration. The guide specifies the exact sequence for adding/removing sections and adjusting counterweights.
-
Retract the arm fully before any reconfiguration. Never work on arm sections with the arm extended.
-
Use two or more people. Never attempt arm reconfiguration alone — one person must hold/support the arm at all times.
-
Counterweights must be in position before extending the arm. Extending without correct counterweights will cause the rig to topple rearward.
-
Never leave the arm extended and unattended — even if secured, environmental disturbance (doors, passing trolleys, vibration) can destabilise it.
-
On location: use outrigger feet. The Milo base feet must all be properly deployed and levelled before arm extension.
