What Is Duco?

Duco is the web-based management interface built into the Cinebot Nano controller. You access it from any browser on the same network as the Nano by going to:

http://192.168.1.18:7000

Duco handles low-level configuration of the Nano — motor parameters, axis calibration, diagnostics, and software updates. Most operators rarely need to open it, but it is the only way to apply controller firmware updates and perform load calibration.

What Does This Update Add?

This update installs Duco v4.3.1 (or later), which is required for the Load Calibration feature.

What is Load Calibration?

The Cinebot Nano is a small robotic arm, and its motion accuracy depends on knowing the exact weight of the camera package mounted on it. A heavier payload changes how the arm behaves under acceleration — if the Nano doesn't know your actual payload weight, its kinematics calculations will be approximate.

Load Calibration is a procedure where the Nano measures the actual physical load on each axis and calibrates its internal model accordingly. The result is significantly more accurate and repeatable motion — particularly important for tight moves, close focus work, or precision CGI integration.

Without Duco v4.3.1+, the Load Calibration option is not available in Flair.

Do I Need This Update?

Check first — you may already have it. Nano units shipped from MRMC in later production runs may have already had Duco 4.3.1 or later applied before leaving the factory. Units on long-term hire that have been serviced may also already be up to date. Don't assume either way — it takes about 30 seconds to check.

How to check your current Duco version

The Duco interface is accessed from any browser on the same local network as the Nano. You do not need to connect a monitor or keyboard to the controller — just a laptop or tablet on the same network.

  1. Make sure your laptop is connected to the same network as the Nano (typically via the MRMC network switch in the kit)
  2. Open any web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox — all work)
  3. In the address bar, type exactly: 
    http://192.168.1.18:7000
    and press Enter
  4. A login screen will appear. Enter the password 123
  5. Once inside Duco, look for the version number — it is displayed in the top-right corner or in the Settings or About section of the interface
  6. Note the version number shown

What the version number means:

Version shown What to do
4.3.1 or higher You're up to date — no action needed
Lower than 4.3.1 (e.g. 4.2.x, 4.1.x) Apply this update

Can't reach 192.168.1.18:7000?

If the browser gives a "connection refused" or "site can't be reached" error, check that:

  • Your laptop is connected to the MRMC network switch, not your studio Wi-Fi
  • The Nano controller is powered on (the Duco web server only runs when the controller is on)
  • Your laptop's IP address is in the 192.168.1.x range — if it's not, your network may use a different subnet and the Nano's IP will be different. Check with whoever manages your network setup.

Signs you probably need the update

Even without checking, the following are strong indicators:

  • You bought or hired the Nano before late 2023 and it has never been serviced
  • Flair displays a warning about Load Calibration requiring a software update when you try to run it
  • You have never performed a Load Calibration and your moves feel slightly inconsistent at different payload weights

How Is the Update Applied?

The update is applied via the USB service port on the back of the Nano controller — not over the network. You will need:

  • A USB drive formatted as FAT32
  • The downloaded update package extracted onto the drive
  • Physical access to the back of the Nano controller

Network Address

192.168.1.18 is the Nano's default IP address on the standard MRMC network configuration. If your setup uses a different IP scheme, you will need to find the Nano's actual IP address on your network before accessing Duco.
