Flair Startup Error After License Update¶
Summary¶
After updating Flair license, users may encounter startup errors that prevent Flair from launching properly, even though the Bolt hardware appears to be working normally.
Symptoms¶
- Startup error dialog appears after license update
- Flair fails to launch or shows configuration errors
- Bolt hardware appears to function but software won't start
- Error occurs when upgrading between Flair versions (e.g., beta 44 to 73)
Solution¶
[CONFIRMED] Copy startup.json from Previous Version¶
Immediate fix:
- Locate the
startup.jsonfile from your previous working Flair version - For example: from Flair beta 44 to current version 73
- Copy the
startup.jsonfile to the new Flair installation directory - Restart Flair
[CONFIRMED] Alternative: Fresh Install with Profile Import¶
If the above doesn't work:
- Perform a fresh default install of Flair
- Important: Do not overwrite your last working version
- Launch the fresh installation
- Go to System > Profiles
- Import your settings from the previous version
- This preserves your configuration while using clean startup files

Chris: "Any one ever seen this come up after a licence update? [image attached]"
MRMC Support: "Can you try a fresh default install (without overwriting your last working version with your settings) and then import your settings through System > Profiles"
MRMC Support: "Can you find the startup.json file from beta 44 and copy it to 73"
Chris: "That's fixed it. Thanks"
Prevention¶
- Back up your configuration files before performing license updates
- Keep a copy of
startup.jsonfrom known-working installations - Consider testing license updates on a non-critical system first
