Flair 7: Reversing the Lens Motor & Troubleshooting

▶ Flair 7: Reversing the Lens Motor & Troubleshooting — Watch on YouTube

so we've previously calibrated a lens as you saw in an earlier video and what I'm going to do now is show you uh some troubleshooting steps and also how to reverse Direction on the motor because uh we found that can be slightly uh different on this type of system firstly just to make a few things clear um the display here is very easily and adequately explained in the manuals that come with the motor but it is important just to note if you are using the hand controller that the uh letter and number here match the letter and number here which is the uh radio channel that it's talking on okay so this is Channel 14 in the high range okay there's a low medium and high range and then also uh the other thing of no is that this motor here is set to number three and in flare number three is set to be Focus uh in the axis setup if we just go here if we just go here access setup Focus you'll see it's Port three okay and similarly the zoom is set to Port two okay and which of these controls here controls which motor is also set on the menu system So currently this one is set to control the focus uh but it could also control the zoom if you set this up correctly it is important to note that you can plug and unplug the motor without any issue but if you were to add a second motor uh after flare has loaded for the first time then that second motor won't be detected um so it is important if you are going to be adding other Motors to reload flare afterwards if you haven't plugged them in when flare first loaded you can load just the axess board that's in the in the base but when you do that that same access board also controls the tracks of the track or lose position you'd have to rehome the track so therefore it's important as a Simplicity just to have everything plugged in when you load flare okay now if I want to reverse the motor let's say for whatever reason I can't have it here I have to have it the other way around so like this so before I was able to see display now I'm not able to see the display when I plug it in it'll go through the calibration procedure as normal just plug in the right one so it's calibrating itself to find the end limits and if I use the hand controller it will also work from the hand controller without any issues okay but flare now is not set up correctly we look at flare and I go to let's say 3 ft which is 90 CM over here shows focus is at 40 cm if I go to Infinity it says my focus is at 26 cm which is not correct so it isn't as simple as just reversing the direction there's another step that needs to needs to occur so if I go to My Lens setup okay okay so my motor if I reverse the motor is that okay so now it is reversed and you'll see I'm at Infinity so I'm at Infinity if I enable it and I move it to close focus it actually is not going the right way until I keep going and then it's correct you kind of have to go through going the wrong way and then it self corrects itself now I did that with the hand controller but if I don't have the hand controller to hand um you can also do that through flare so if I just reverse it back now so I've turned the motor back the other way and I go to My Lens setups okay calibrate so at the moment says I'm on 41 it's not correct if I go to Infinity sorry if I go to Infinity it says Infinity in flare but actually that's close focus on the lens okay so I need to reverse it so I will reverse it apply okay and now I'm going to move it by hand flare moved it rather rapidly and now it's correct again okay so I've saved and applied already simple as that now you can run into a situation where you're trying to calibrate a lens newly and system is not allowing you to I'll show you an example of this so here I have a lens it is already calibrated okay but for whatever reason I need to uh now calibrate a new lens and I'm going to put the motor the other way around so I'm actually going to unplug it take this turn it around plug it in okay now it's going through the motor is going through the auto calibration to find the end stops and once it's done I then have full control so so I can now do it but it is the wrong way around so this is close focus and it thinks it's at Infinity this is far Focus now to calibrate this lens if I just try and calibrate it like this so if I go new lens give it a name zen 50 mm reverse so 50 mil lens okay apply okay and then I go through and calibrate it so store Focus going to move it turn my external controller on and then move it to Infinity we're Infinity y we're at Infinity so store this move it to close Focus 25 cm store and now when I try and move it you see the percentage here is very large and I can move it it does move but if I try and calibrate it so let's say I go to 2 feet 60 cm 60 cm store okay and calibrate focus it actually comes up with with an error message invalid Focus positions Target distance it's not allowing me to carry on and can't I can't complete the calibration what I actually need to do is I actually need to go into uh my focus axis menu change it to Independent go to my focus access setup and click reverse apply okay and then turn it on and run it basically I I just have to move it so I go move it to one end and you'll see it did a rapid spin there where it corrected itself and now I can carry on as normal doing the calibration so disable the focus turn my external controller back on move it to Infinity store that move it to close Focus store that and move it somewhere in the middle I'm going to say two feet uh two feet is there 60 cm store calibrate Focus complete calibration apply and save and now that lens is fine I do just I will just turn my focus back to Follows Target so it shows me the position in my measure units which is centimeters here so now I'm going to close Focus 20 5 cm and infinity
