hello and welcome to another Mark hello and welcome to another Mark Roberts motion control video tutorial Roberts motion control video tutorial Roberts motion control video tutorial today we're going to take a quick look today we're going to take a quick look today we're going to take a quick look at flare running on Linux and just to uh at flare running on Linux and just to uh at flare running on Linux and just to uh highlight some of the key changes of highlight some of the key changes of highlight some of the key changes of flare running in a Windows environment flare running in a Windows environment flare running in a Windows environment and Linux so this is our Linux Ubuntu and Linux so this is our Linux Ubuntu and Linux so this is our Linux Ubuntu desktop that's a default desktop uh desktop that's a default desktop uh desktop that's a default desktop uh we're running with our rigs um standardly at the with our rigs um standardly at the bottom left here you can see an bottom left here you can see an bottom left here you can see an applications uh shortcut and brings up applications uh shortcut and brings up applications uh shortcut and brings up the uh screen that shows all the the uh screen that shows all the the uh screen that shows all the applications that you have applications that you have applications that you have installed uh we also have a favorites uh installed uh we also have a favorites uh installed uh we also have a favorites uh bar here on the top left with the web bar here on the top left with the web bar here on the top left with the web browser file uh structure the App Store browser file uh structure the App Store browser file uh structure the App Store and of course also a shortcut for flare and of course also a shortcut for flare and of course also a shortcut for flare um so you can actually well if if by um so you can actually well if if by um so you can actually well if if by accident or otherwise you get rid of accident or otherwise you get rid of accident or otherwise you get rid of this shortcut here say you removed it this shortcut here say you removed it this shortcut here say you removed it from your favorites then it would appear from your favorites then it would appear from your favorites then it would appear back uh with the other applications on back uh with the other applications on back uh with the other applications on the bottom left here on the shortcut you the bottom left here on the shortcut you the bottom left here on the shortcut you can see it there uh and then if you can see it there uh and then if you can see it there uh and then if you right click on it you can very easily right click on it you can very easily right click on it you can very easily add it back to the favorites bar here on add it back to the favorites bar here on add it back to the favorites bar here on the the the left um so let's take a look at the uh left um so let's take a look at the uh left um so let's take a look at the uh file structure quickly uh so if we open file structure quickly uh so if we open file structure quickly uh so if we open this folder here you'll see some very this folder here you'll see some very this folder here you'll see some very familiar looking folders like desktop familiar looking folders like desktop familiar looking folders like desktop documents downloads Etc music pictures documents downloads Etc music pictures documents downloads Etc music pictures um there's also a folder for flare uh um there's also a folder for flare uh um there's also a folder for flare uh and if you open that you will see the and if you open that you will see the and if you open that you will see the app image file so this is the actual app image file so this is the actual app image file so this is the actual flare app that is running so this flare app that is running so this flare app that is running so this shortcut here actually activates this shortcut here actually activates this shortcut here actually activates this app um you can also see that there's app um you can also see that there's app um you can also see that there's none of the other uh config files that none of the other uh config files that none of the other uh config files that are located here so they they are are located here so they they are are located here so they they are actually in in a normal Windows actually in in a normal Windows actually in in a normal Windows environment they would be located here environment they would be located here environment they would be located here but in Linux they actually in another but in Linux they actually in another but in Linux they actually in another location and uh what this actually means location and uh what this actually means location and uh what this actually means is it makes uh updating flare very easy is it makes uh updating flare very easy is it makes uh updating flare very easy uh and trouble uh troubl less without uh and trouble uh troubl less without uh and trouble uh troubl less without trouble because um you don't have to be trouble because um you don't have to be trouble because um you don't have to be worried about your configs getting worried about your configs getting worried about your configs getting overwritten so um I've actually started overwritten so um I've actually started overwritten so um I've actually started flare here earlier so uh let's just open flare here earlier so uh let's just open flare here earlier so uh let's just open that up uh and let's have a look at that up uh and let's have a look at that up uh and let's have a look at tools so if you open tools and then open tools so if you open tools and then open tools so if you open tools and then open configuration folder then this opens the configuration folder then this opens the configuration folder then this opens the folder that actually has your configs folder that actually has your configs folder that actually has your configs you can see the path here at the top um you can see the path here at the top um you can see the path here at the top um this is a somewhat familiar looking uh this is a somewhat familiar looking uh this is a somewhat familiar looking uh folder structure it has a a job as folder structure it has a a job as folder structure it has a a job as folder which is where by default your folder which is where by default your folder which is where by default your jobs will get stored and then there's a jobs will get stored and then there's a jobs will get stored and then there's a flare engine folder and if you go in flare engine folder and if you go in flare engine folder and if you go in there you will have a configs folder and there you will have a configs folder and there you will have a configs folder and and flare in and and so on some familiar and flare in and and so on some familiar and flare in and and so on some familiar looking uh files um if you open uh flare looking uh files um if you open uh flare looking uh files um if you open uh flare in um you can see that the uh first two in um you can see that the uh first two in um you can see that the uh first two lines here have been commented out which lines here have been commented out which lines here have been commented out which is the in time line and the root program is the in time line and the root program is the in time line and the root program so these are the lines that are normally so these are the lines that are normally so these are the lines that are normally active in a Windows environment uh but active in a Windows environment uh but active in a Windows environment uh but in Linux they're obviously been in Linux they're obviously been in Linux they're obviously been commented out and then um instead it has commented out and then um instead it has commented out and then um instead it has another line here called xot Linux so if another line here called xot Linux so if another line here called xot Linux so if you're looking at an in file uh then you're looking at an in file uh then you're looking at an in file uh then it's very quickly uh you can very it's very quickly uh you can very it's very quickly uh you can very quickly see whether this is a Linux quickly see whether this is a Linux quickly see whether this is a Linux installation or a Windows installation or a Windows installation or a Windows installation um now as traditional uh in installation um now as traditional uh in installation um now as traditional uh in a Windows environment you have on a Windows environment you have on a Windows environment you have on occasion made edits to this flare any occasion made edits to this flare any occasion made edits to this flare any file uh for various uh changes maybe to file uh for various uh changes maybe to file uh for various uh changes maybe to add axes Etc um and you can still do add axes Etc um and you can still do add axes Etc um and you can still do that um however now uh within Linux and that um however now uh within Linux and that um however now uh within Linux and actually also within the windows version actually also within the windows version actually also within the windows version but uh specifically for this video um but uh specifically for this video um but uh specifically for this video um you can make these changes also in you can make these changes also in you can make these changes also in within the user interface without having within the user interface without having within the user interface without having to edit the in file so if you go to to edit the in file so if you go to to edit the in file so if you go to system and then system and then system and then configuration uh then these settings configuration uh then these settings configuration uh then these settings here are the uh essentially the flare in here are the uh essentially the flare in here are the uh essentially the flare in settings you know uh so like you have settings you know uh so like you have settings you know uh so like you have your displayed axes you have Network your displayed axes you have Network your displayed axes you have Network direct Target tracking you have the Rick direct Target tracking you have the Rick direct Target tracking you have the Rick uh the robot you know default FPS and uh the robot you know default FPS and uh the robot you know default FPS and some of the other um things that are some of the other um things that are some of the other um things that are normally could be found in flare in and normally could be found in flare in and normally could be found in flare in and would in the past have been edited there would in the past have been edited there would in the past have been edited there they can also be edited here they can also be edited here they can also be edited here now and then just uh quickly looking now and then just uh quickly looking now and then just uh quickly looking again back at uh how where the files are again back at uh how where the files are again back at uh how where the files are located and so on so obviously if you uh located and so on so obviously if you uh located and so on so obviously if you uh have a job file and you want to save it have a job file and you want to save it have a job file and you want to save it and if you go save as then uh by default and if you go save as then uh by default and if you go save as then uh by default it will take you to the jobs uh folder it will take you to the jobs uh folder it will take you to the jobs uh folder in the flare folder structure of course in the flare folder structure of course in the flare folder structure of course you can navigate away from that you can you can navigate away from that you can you can navigate away from that you can go to the desktop or wherever you might go to the desktop or wherever you might go to the desktop or wherever you might want to store uh a file uh again want to store uh a file uh again want to store uh a file uh again obviously open uh you know file will obviously open uh you know file will obviously open uh you know file will then take you to then take you to then take you to um the you know various document folders um the you know various document folders um the you know various document folders that are available to you um and also that are available to you um and also that are available to you um and also equally the same with move Import and equally the same with move Import and equally the same with move Import and Export um you know you just navigate to Export um you know you just navigate to Export um you know you just navigate to um wherever you you have your files um wherever you you have your files um wherever you you have your files located uh either on the desktop or um located uh either on the desktop or um located uh either on the desktop or um otherwise now one little peculiarity otherwise now one little peculiarity otherwise now one little peculiarity that I should point out to you is uh that I should point out to you is uh that I should point out to you is uh like if you're using a U USB flash drive like if you're using a U USB flash drive like if you're using a U USB flash drive I'm just going to add mine here to um to I'm just going to add mine here to um to I'm just going to add mine here to um to the system just plug it the system just plug it the system just plug it in and it obviously shows up and if I uh in and it obviously shows up and if I uh in and it obviously shows up and if I uh open it then I have it here it shows in open it then I have it here it shows in open it then I have it here it shows in the file structure and I can then you the file structure and I can then you the file structure and I can then you know move things to the desktop or to know move things to the desktop or to know move things to the desktop or to the folders uh to the document uh folder the folders uh to the document uh folder the folders uh to the document uh folder however if you were to let's say you had however if you were to let's say you had however if you were to let's say you had a bunch of job files on the USB flash a bunch of job files on the USB flash a bunch of job files on the USB flash drive that you wanted to load so if drive that you wanted to load so if drive that you wanted to load so if you're going to open um then by by you're going to open um then by by you're going to open um then by by default uh you would be going to this uh default uh you would be going to this uh default uh you would be going to this uh to the the documents folder or this this to the the documents folder or this this to the the documents folder or this this sort of Home folder um and as you can sort of Home folder um and as you can sort of Home folder um and as you can see there's no USB flash drive anywhere see there's no USB flash drive anywhere see there's no USB flash drive anywhere here um so the way you would access that here um so the way you would access that here um so the way you would access that uh is you would need to go back to the uh is you would need to go back to the uh is you would need to go back to the main Linux main Linux main Linux installation and then you uh look for a installation and then you uh look for a installation and then you uh look for a folder called media so this is where folder called media so this is where folder called media so this is where Linux puts uh things like the USB flash Linux puts uh things like the USB flash Linux puts uh things like the USB flash drives um so you would go in there mrmc drives um so you would go in there mrmc drives um so you would go in there mrmc is the name of the system and then by is the name of the system and then by is the name of the system and then by default when it was plugged in Linux default when it was plugged in Linux default when it was plugged in Linux gave it a bunch of numbers so you open gave it a bunch of numbers so you open gave it a bunch of numbers so you open that and then that is the actual USB that and then that is the actual USB that and then that is the actual USB flash drive that I've now plugged in so flash drive that I've now plugged in so flash drive that I've now plugged in so uh and then you can obviously select the uh and then you can obviously select the uh and then you can obviously select the the move file so this is just a little the move file so this is just a little the move file so this is just a little peculiarity to mention uh in terms of peculiarity to mention uh in terms of peculiarity to mention uh in terms of the location of um files on the USB the location of um files on the USB the location of um files on the USB flash drive okay so this actually flash drive okay so this actually flash drive okay so this actually completes our first overview of flare completes our first overview of flare completes our first overview of flare running on Linux uh the actual flare running on Linux uh the actual flare running on Linux uh the actual flare interface itself is of course unchanged interface itself is of course unchanged interface itself is of course unchanged from uh Windows the only difference from uh Windows the only difference from uh Windows the only difference being that of course you don't have a being that of course you don't have a being that of course you don't have a flare classic flare classic flare classic window uh in the next video we'll cover window uh in the next video we'll cover window uh in the next video we'll cover how to back back up the configs and run how to back back up the configs and run how to back back up the configs and run a flare software update
