Enttec ODE / Art-Net DMX - IP, Gateway, Universe, Port 6454¶
Summary¶
Ethernet DMX nodes such as Enttec ODE MK2 / ODE MK3 must be configured on the same Root / InTime network path used by Flair for Root DMX. The repeated checks are: static IP in the expected 192.168.1.xxx subnet, Art-Net / UDP port 6454, universe 1, no incorrect gateway, and physical connection to the InTime switch that also connects the RT unit and axis boards.
Symptoms / Questions¶
- Enttec ODE MK2 or ODE MK3 works from a laptop but does not work from Flair.
- Operator asks whether the Enttec DMX device connects to the InTime controlled hub or Windows network port.
- Operator set static IP
192.168.1.85, enabledRoot DMX, turned onUDP, entered the IP address, and asks whether a port number is needed. - Operator tries gateway
192.168.1.10or the InTime address and still gets no DMX. - Operator sees no Art-Net packets to the DMX node while testing through the DMX menu.
- Operator reports that the Enttec ODE MK3 is not accepting the new IP address.
Settings Location¶
| Task | Flair / device location |
|---|---|
| Enable Root DMX output | Setups -> External Devices -> DMX / Root DMX |
| DMX protocol and port | UDP, port 6454 |
| DMX universe | Art-Net universe 1 in field reports |
| Enttec ODE IP setup | Enttec web UI or Enttec NMU under Windows |
| Physical connection for running | InTime / Root network switch with RT unit and axis boards |
Community Solutions¶
[CONFIRMED] Use Port 6454 For Art-Net / UDP¶
The Enttec device requires a port number. Gordon and Simon both identified 6454 as the likely/default Art-Net port, and Hunter later confirmed 6454 was correct for an Obsidian EN4.
Confidence: 0.84
[CONFIRMED] Connect Root DMX Through The InTime / Root Network¶
Simon clarified that Root DMX is done through the same network as the RT12 / RT unit and axis boards. Configure the node from Windows first if needed, then connect it to the InTime switch for Flair operation.
Confidence: 0.82
[LIKELY] Leave Gateway Blank Unless You Have A Real Router¶
In the July 2023 Enttec ODE MK3 setup, Simon stated that InTime is not the gateway and that there is no router. Gateway can be blank; if a gateway address is required, 192.168.1.1 was suggested as a placeholder, but do not put another device at that address.
Confidence: 0.74
[LIKELY] Configure The Node From Windows, Then Move It To The InTime Switch¶
For Enttec devices, use the vendor web UI or Enttec NMU to set IP and Art-Net settings from a Windows-accessible network connection. After configuration, connect the node to the switch that Flair uses for Root DMX / InTime.
Confidence: 0.78
[LIKELY] Avoid Passive RJ45-to-DMX Adapters¶
Passive DMX-to-Ethernet cable adapters only convert pins so that an Ethernet cable can carry hardware-level DMX. They do not speak Art-Net, do not work through a network switch, and do not communicate as Ethernet devices.

Evidence¶
| Timestamp | User | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 2022-03-01 | Alexandre Bartholo / Brick | Warned that passive RJ45-DMX adapters cannot be used on a switch or communicate with network devices; a real DMX node is required. |
| 2023-01-11 | Justin Mahood / Gordon Eschke | Static 192.168.1.85, InTime hub, Root DMX, UDP, IP address; Gordon confirmed the device needs a port number and default is likely 6454. |
| 2023-04-23 | Der Mo / Simon Wakley | ODE MK2 worked on laptop but not Flair; Simon said connect Ethernet to the same switch as RT12 and axis boards so it is on the Root network. |
| 2023-04-25 | Simon Wakley | Corrected the network path: Root DMX is through the same network as RT12 etc. |
| 2023-07-21 | Al / Simon Wakley | ODE MK3 setup, gateway confusion; Simon said InTime is not the gateway and there is no router. |
| 2024-07-25 | Jo / Simon / Hunter | Flair sends Art-Net on universe 1 when running a move; configure Enttec with NMU; port 6454; Obsidian EN4 worked after IP was reconfigured. |

WhatsApp Excerpts¶
- 2022-03-01 22:29 - Alexandre Bartholo: Those adapter are for converting the pin of the dmx into Ethernet pins on a hardware level.
- 2022-03-01 22:29 - Alexandre Bartholo: Those however can't be used on a switch or to communicate with any sort of network device.
- 2023-01-11 06:36 - Justin Mahood: With the enttec dmx device, does it connect to the intime controlled hub, or windows network port?
- 2023-01-11 06:36 - Justin Mahood: I have set a static ip for the device in the 192.168.1 subnet (192.168.1.85) connected it to the intime hub and from external device setup, enabled "root dmx", turned on UDP and put in the ip address. Do I need a port number?
- 2023-01-11 08:15 - Gordon Eschke: Should say in the instructions but I think default is 6454.
- 2023-04-23 00:27 - Simon Wakley: You must of course plug the ethernet cable into the same switch as the Rt12 and axis boards etc so it's on the "root" Network.
- 2023-04-25 01:11 - Simon Wakley: The root DMX is done through the same network as the Rt12 etc.
- 2023-07-21 04:56 - Simon Wakley: Intime is NOT the gateway! There is no router so no gateway but you can use 192.168.1.1 if you must but don't put anything at that address.
- 2024-07-25 09:48 - Simon Wakley: connect to a PC on the windows network to set it up and then connect to the Intime network via the switch that connects to the RT Unit etc to make it work.
- 2024-07-25 09:55 - Hunter Herrick: We got it going with an Obsidian EN4. It allowed us to easily reconfigure the IP address to speak with flair and intime.
