End Mount Home Position Trips Pan Axis When Entering Carts¶
Summary¶
In End Mount, entering Carts / Cartesian mode from the Bolt default home position can put the pan axis directly in a bad kinematic solution. The symptom described in chat was that END mount trips the pan axis when you switch to carts mode, especially when the arm is pointing straight ahead or the camera is in the home pointing-down position.
The field workaround is to move the arm out of the singularity before enabling Carts: turn Carts off, use individual axes to move the tilt/lift/arm so the camera is level and looking forward, then enter the intended Cartesian or roll mode and store that position as a safe return point.
Symptoms¶
- End Mount works in one roll mode but fails or trips when switching back to Carts.
- The rig is in the Bolt default GOTO home position, or close to home.
- Camera is home pointing down, or the arm is pointing straight ahead.
- Switching to Carts / Cartesian mode creates a strange go-to, pan trip, or apparent pan-axis singularity.
- End Mount only seems usable after turning the tilt axis 90 degrees or moving the arm off to the side.
Community Guidance¶
[CONFIRMED] Move out of home before entering Carts¶
- Turn Carts off.
- Use individual axis control to shift the arm/camera position.
- Move tilt, lift, and arm until the camera is level and looking forward.
- Avoid pointing straight ahead from the exact home pose.
- Turn on Carts / Cartesian mode again.
- Store that position so it is quick to recover if the setup gets confused.

[LIKELY] Do not start End Mount Carts with pan in its singularity¶
If the pan axis is already in the end-mount singularity, Flair may choose the wrong inverse-kinematic solution as soon as Carts is enabled. Move the physical arm position first, then select the required Carts mode.

[DANGEROUS] Test slowly after any end-mount mode change¶
End Mount can produce large physical changes from small setup changes. Browse slowly after changing mount type, roll mode, Carts Priority, or Target Tracking mode.
