Teradek / RF Proximity Causing Network or Ultibox Dropouts

LIKELY NETWORKING

Summary

At least two community reports associate Teradek wireless video devices placed near the Flair computer with network instability or Ultibox connection loss. The evidence is field-level rather than definitive, but it is a useful troubleshooting check when network dropouts appear on set.

Symptoms

  • Network drops repeatedly on location
  • Ultibox connection loss
  • Robot trips or disconnects intermittently
  • Issue improves when power or Ethernet cabling is changed
  • Issue may correlate with wireless video gear near the Flair computer

If a Teradek is close to the computer, move/remove it as a troubleshooting step. One operator reported network constantly dropping until the Teradek was removed.

For location network trips, also try isolating the robot, inverter, and computer onto a dedicated power circuit and swapping Ethernet cables. In the reported case, swapping Ethernet cables improved stability.

WhatsApp Excerpts

  • 2026-05-08 02:14 - ~ Aaron Saltzman: Hey guys. Trying to troubleshoot an apparent networking challenge for a shoot happening in an hour. Cinebot Max on track. Got everything set yesterday. And it was all working without issue. Powered everything down and left for the night. Got in today and originally the RIC and Network board kept disconnecting. I powered everything down, triple checked my ethernet connections, and booting everything up from scratch. Seems to have fixed that. But now, my track, focus, and zoom keep tripping...
  • 2026-05-08 02:19 - ~ Aaron Saltzman: Sorry, camera is not. That is on battery
  • 2026-05-08 02:25 - ~ Niko: Any Teradek close to the computer? I had a problem some time ago. If the teradek was close to the computer network was constantly dropping
  • 2026-05-08 02:32 - ~ Aaron Saltzman: Oh how odd. There is teradeck in the room. And on the camera. Not near the computer though
  • 2026-05-08 02:49 - ~ Aaron Saltzman: As soon as this interview stops rolling, I will move my power around and put just the robot, inverter, and computer onto a single 20 amp circuit.
  • 2026-05-08 03:25 - ~ Łukasz Trojan: That's really interesting. Recently, during a shoot, the Teradek was sitting next to the computer and I kept losing connection to the Ultibox. Do you think it could have been because of the Teradek?
