Flair License Policy: Annual Re-Registration vs. Paid Upgrade Entitlement

Summary

There is a common misunderstanding about what Flair license entitlement includes. The version of Flair that shipped with your rig is yours for life — but it must be re-registered every year (free, via Help → License → Request License) to keep working. New rigs come with 12 months of free tech support and software upgrades. After that 12-month period, continued access to new software versions and tech support requires the paid Flair Upgrade, Support & Maintenance contract. Operators who believe "owning a Flair 6 license means I get all 6.x updates" are incorrect — that is only true during the initial 12-month period or while on an active maintenance contract. The version you originally purchased remains yours permanently.

[RESOLVED] License Policy — Clarified by Gordon Eschke

2021-01-14 — Gordon Eschke / Jeremy Andrews / Kyle (Axsix, Korea)

Gordon Eschke's definitive clarification of the Flair license model:

What you have What it means
Flair version shipped with your rig Yours for life — no expiry on the version itself
Annual re-registration Free — do it yearly via Help → License → Request License
New rig (first 12 months) Free tech support + software upgrades included
After 12 months Upgrades and tech support require active Flair Upgrade, Support & Maintenance contract

Gordon Eschke: "When you purchase a rig with Flair, THAT Flair version is yours to keep for life. It requires to be re-registered every year, which is free of charge for that version (Help → License → Request License)." Gordon Eschke: "Any new rig has a 12 month warranty and initial 12 months free tech support & software upgrades. Once that 12 months is up, in order to continue to be eligible for free tech support and software updates to later versions as they are released, it requires that you are signed up to and paid up on our Flair Upgrade, Support & Maintenance cover."

[INFORMATIONAL] Temporary License for VFX Collaborators

2022-12-05 — Gordon Eschke / Valentin

MRMC can issue a temporary non-hardware license for a VFX artist or collaborator who needs to use Flair for a specific project (e.g., to test FBX export/import workflow). The collaborator should email a license request to support@mrmoco.com noting that they are working with a named operator on a specific project. This is handled on a trust basis.

Gordon Eschke: "If they are collaborating with you, then we can issue a temporary (non-hardware) license for the purpose of your project. Tell them to send a license request and note that they're working with you."

[12/1/2021] ~ kyle.k: hello, this is kyle from axsix, korea. our team would like to upgrade to 6.45 ver due to add up some missing point at 6.43 version (focus look up, locked flat mode on cartesian control). does anyone have install file?
[13/1/2021] ~ Stafford (Staff) Wheaton: https://www.mrmoco.com/resources/downloads/
[13/1/2021] ~ Stafford (Staff) Wheaton: Make sure you make a copy of your working Flair folder before update.
[14/1/2021] ~ Jeremy Andrews: My understanding is that if you have any Flair 6 version you are licensed for all Flair 6.x upgrades that are released on the MRMC download site, provided you have the appropriate windows platform installed on your PC.
[14/1/2021] Gordon Eschke: Hi @~Jeremy Andrews That's not entirely correct. When you purchase a rig with Flair, THAT Flair version is yours to keep for life. It requires to be re-registered every year, which is free of charge for that version (Help > License > Request License).
[14/1/2021] Gordon Eschke: Any new rig has a 12 month warranty and initial 12 months free tech support & software upgrades. Once that 12 months is up, in order to continue to be eligible for free tech support and software updates to later versions as they are released, it requires that you are signed up to and paid up on our Flair Upgrade, Support & Maintenance cover.

[5/12/2022] ~ Valentin: The VFX artist of a project we are shooting tomorrow wants to try some export and import options with flair, is there a way he can use flair without having a license or purchasing one for a day?
[5/12/2022] Gordon Eschke: @~Valentin If they are collaborating with you, then we can issue a temporary (non-hardware) license for the purpose of your project
[5/12/2022] Gordon Eschke: Tell them to send a license request and note that they're working with you
