HyperDeck with Flair — IP Setup, Record Control, and Version Pitfalls¶
Summary¶
Flair can control a Blackmagic HyperDeck over the moco/InTime network for record/playback workflows. The recurring field setup is: connect the HyperDeck Ethernet port to the moco hub, assign a static IP such as 192.168.1.50, and enter that same address in Flair HyperDeck settings. Later Flair 7 builds introduced reports of HD1/HD2 confusion when multiple HyperDecks were added.
Symptoms¶
- HyperDeck Ethernet LEDs are active but Flair does not see the deck
- Front-panel remote/record behavior works, but Flair cannot send commands
- Flair sends commands to the wrong HyperDeck
- HD1/HD2 selection mismatch
- Review playback appears offset from expected sync
Stable ID¶
ISSUE-NET-014
First Reported¶
2021-11-21 — HyperDeck suggested as a personal VTR deck for synced recording/playback and overlay review.
Additional Reports¶
- 2026-02-17 — first-time setup question.
- 2026-02-20 — Flair does not see HyperDeck even though record can be triggered.
- 2026-03-04 — synced recording review appears half-frame off.
- 2026-04-08 — HyperDeck Studio Mini not talking to Flair 7.7.12.
Software Environment¶
Primarily Flair 7. Reported version-specific risk around Flair 7.6+ when multiple HyperDeck support was introduced.
Installation Context¶
Flair 7 only or dual-install systems. Use caution after upgrading Flair because HyperDeck protocol handling may change.
Hardware¶
- Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio Mini / Mini-class devices
- Flair PC / InTime network switch
- Camera monitor feed / SDI path
- Optional second HyperDeck for VP workflows
Possible Causes¶
- HyperDeck not on the InTime subnet
- IP address mismatch between HyperDeck front-panel settings and Flair settings
- IP conflict with reserved moco devices
- HyperDeck firmware incompatibility
- Flair version issue in multi-HyperDeck builds
- Frame alignment expectations based on monitor feed rather than camera sensor frames

[CONFIRMED] 2026-02-17 — User: Marcin Biegunajtys¶
Plug HyperDeck Ethernet into the moco hub, set the HyperDeck IP to something like 192.168.1.50, and match that address in Flair HyperDeck settings. Flair HyperDeck settings should then control play, pause, record, and move-linked record/playback.

[LIKELY] 2026-02-20 — Users: MRMC Support, Christoffer Andersson¶
If Flair still cannot see the deck, power-cycle the HyperDeck and check firmware. A downgrade may be required on some devices/builds.

[FIRMWARE_SPECIFIC] 2026-02-20 — User: Marcin Biegunajtys¶
Single HyperDeck operation reportedly worked up to Flair 7.6 for one user; after second-HyperDeck support, Flair sometimes confused HD1 and HD2.

[EXPERIMENTAL] 2026-03-04 — User: Marcin Biegunajtys¶
One report saw HyperDeck footage review half a frame off despite RT14, camera, and HyperDeck sync. No confirmed fix was found in the chat. Treat frame-alignment claims as needing local test confirmation.

- 2021-11-21 03:17 - ~ Dan Gottesman: Flair also has support for controlling a Black Magic Hyperdeck, which can be used as your own little personal VTR deck. it can sync recording and playback, and if use a 2-channel video mixer with overlay functionality, you can actually browse through the move and have previous takes overlaid on the live camera footage from the hyperdeck. i haven’t tried this yet personally, but I know this is how Simon and the guys at CCI do it, which sounds pretty cool. similar to the smallHD frame grab...

- 2021-11-21 06:52 - ~ Jeremy Andrews: Great responses above to the whole issue of maintaining/checking the match on multi pass shots. One thing I will say - the camera mount is the ‘weak link’ in this respect, and I would always ensure that the camera is mounted with two (preferably 3/8”) bolts and NEVER moved during the shoot. Some camera bodies and standard mount plates can actually flex during shooting, and lever-clamped dovetail plates can slip. It’s not a bad idea to put thin double-sided tape on the mount plates. Also I have...
- 2021-11-21 07:02 - Timothy Heys Cerchio: Hey Marcin. If this on your 'dry' copy of Flair this is normal... Otherwise check in your Ini file that Remoterobot: Staubli is not #out or set to None.
