Flair 5.41 Axes Stop Moving — Disable/Re-enable Loses Position¶
Summary¶
On Flair 5.41, a legacy rig showed an error where the axes would not move. Disabling and re-enabling the axes caused the system to lose position, leaving re-zeroing and avoiding disable/re-enable as the only field workaround. Simon Wakley requested a bug report because the video alone did not provide enough diagnostic data.
Symptoms¶
- Axes do not move at all.
- Disabling and re-enabling loses position completely.
- Operator must re-zero.
- Issue may disappear and become hard to reproduce.
Community Guidance¶
[EXPERIMENTAL] Re-zero and avoid disable/re-enable until a report is captured¶
2021-02-23 — Peter Constan-Tatos
- If position has been lost, re-zero the relevant axes.
- Avoid disabling/re-enabling during the shoot if that is known to trigger position loss.
- Recreate only when safe and capture a bug report.

[NEEDS_ESCALATION] Send a Flair bug report¶
2021-02-24 — Simon Wakley
The engineering answer was explicit: there was not enough information in chat/video, and a bug report was needed to inspect the system state.

WhatsApp Excerpts¶
[23/2/2021, 10:58:43 am] ~ Peter Constan-Tatos: @simon any idea what could cause this error to creep in? It’s on Flair 5.41 and the axes are not moving at all. If you disable and re enable it’s totally loses position and only solution is to rezero and never disable.
[23/2/2021, 11:27:32 am] ~ Luke Campbell: How do you like the SHF50?
[23/2/2021, 11:38:51 am] ~ Peter Constan-Tatos: The servo version is a great small head which with our dolly & track system (we call it Mini Mo ) is ideal for those lower budget and run and gun shoots. We have 1.5 and 3m sliders, and 6m of joined track for it and can get up to 2m/s speeds. The head itself with the roll axis is only good for small camera packages but Alexa mini red and Sony f55 are perfect. We even used it with the Venice Rialto (front end separate from the body). If you take the roll off then bigger packages are possible. We’re also setting it up to work on 48v Lipo batteries so great for work out in the field. I also use it a lot for time lapse work with my Nikon.
